“HARAPPANI” is a word in Gormati language conveys meaning Descendent of Harappan women.
Harappani Gorbanjara Mahila Kala Vikas Mandal has tremendously struggled and contributed, and still doing, towards legal rights of the poor, children, women and underprivileged and resolved the injustices with them democratically specially in art and culture. Harappani Gorbanjara Mahila Kala Vikas Mandal is engaged since its inception in search of new strengths, ways, thoughts and powers that will destroy the traditional art discrepancies prevailing at all levels of the society.

                    Before enrolment of an organization under laws, the dedicated activists towards development were conducting training classes of Banjara Embriodery till date for the Art improvement of the girls and womens from Tanda and also developing attractions and habits towards among them. The realities experienced influenced more the activists to shift their attentions and turn the concentrations to the root area rather branches. From 2004, the activists collectively took the decision and appeared in person in Marathwada region and initiated activities in Beed a most backwards district of the region for the benefit of the families falling under the categories of landless, deprived, marginal farmers and the farm based labours.

                   Organization aims at building capacities of poor and needy people in general, and youth, women, tribes and small and marginal farmers in particular, with a view to furthering their socio-economic conditions. Even before its registration in 2004, the organization has been undertaking efforts for promotion of the traditional art and culture of the Banjaras. After registration, the organization has been trying to make use of its experience in a systematic and more effective way not only for promotion of the traditional art and culture of the Banjaras; but, also for their overall development. It has been working to promote traditional art and culture, to preserve indigenous knowledge of the aboriginals, it has been trying to create livelihood opportunities, to manage natural resources and to prepare the backward communities for participation in the political processes, etc.The interventions made by the organization have started showing some positive impacts on the life of the Banjaras. These have encouraged the marginalized and oppressed people to participate in the development processes. Now, some people from the oppressed communities have begun to live a dignified life.

                 Today, Organization is a well-recognized organization at the local level and also at the national level in the fields of women empowerment through promotion of the traditional handicrafts, Biodiversity and indigenous knowledge. The organization has a unique feature that it is for women and by the women. All its office bearers and most of the staff members are women.

               Over the years, it has been able to develop rapport with all sections of the local communities in the region (Beed district). It has also been working in cooperation and collaboration with the government departments. It has been able to develop a network of the likeminded NGOs functioning in the Beed district of Maharashtra. Now, it has been trying to build their capacities so that they could think and work collectively for promotion of the traditional arts in the Beed district.
